The Adopt-A-Mile Program
Citizens all across Alabama are showing their pride in our state by sharing their time and energy in cleaning up our state's highways and roadsides. Through the Alabama Adopt-A-Mile Program, an organization, family, corporation, church group, or individual can play a major role in the beautification of our state by
pledging to "adopt" a mile of highway for a two year period.
An attractive Adopt-A-Mile sign with you or your group's name will be erected at the sight of your chosen mile of County, State or U.S. Highway. Your part in the program is to keep "your" mile scenic and litter free during the two year "adoption" period.
With your assistance and commitment, we can make the Alabama Adopt-A-Mile Program among the best and most effective in the country.
We look forward to working with you and your group as we strive to make Alabama a cleaner and more beautiful state for all Alabamians.
Five Easy Steps
Step 1: Locate a mile of County, State or U.S. Highway that you or your group is interested in "adopting."
Step 2: Fill out the Adopt-A-Mile application form.
Step 3: Processing of your application will be handled by the Alabama Department of Transportation. Your Adopt-A-Mile sign will be ordered using the information on this form.
Step 4: You will be notified of the installation of your signs approximately six weeks from the date that your application is received.
Step 5: To insure that this program continues to be effective, it is suggested that you or your group clean your mile every four to six weeks. Alabama Department of Transportation engineers will inspect miles periodically to insure compliance within the program.
